Meals-on-Wheels FAQs

Q: How do you use my information after the intake is completed?
A: All information is used to determine your eligibility for the program. Our contract requires us to ask about health conditions that may impact diet, mental function, or service provision. Information is kept in a confidential client profile, which can be provided to you upon request. Demographic information is used in grant writing, reporting, and fundraising efforts.

Q: How much does Meals on Wheels cost?
A: We do not charge you for the meals we provide. However, we do suggest a donation of $3.00 per meal to offset the cost of the meal. Donations are confidential and can be made to your driver through cash or check.

Q: Do I have to be home to get my meal?
A:  You must be home to receive your meal, and our driver cannot leave it with someone else.

Q: What happens if you try to deliver to me but I am not home ?

A: Part of the services we provide through the Meals on Wheels program is checking on your well-being, which includes providing intervention in emergencies. It is your responsibility to be present when the meal is delivered and to notify the office in advance if you will not be home.

The Meals on Wheels driver will notify the Elder Support Personnel if they are not able to deliver to you. After being notified,  personnel will complete the following wellness check procedure: Try calling you first. Call your emergency contact(s) second. Call your case manager, if you have one. And if unsuccessful, call the local police department and request a wellness check.

Q: Why do I need to keep my pet restrained for deliveries?

A: This is for the safety of our drivers, the pets, and you! It is critical that we remain consistent in enforcing this policy.  It is important that you commit to such safety measure as a Meals on Wheels participant.

Q: What do you do if there is inclement weather?

A: You will receive an automated call notifying you of such closure. Closures will be posted on WMUR by 8:00AM on the day of and WCNL Radio 1010.  Meals-on-Wheels participants shall use their shelf-stable emergency meal, delivered previously, during times of closures.
